I was diagnosed with sleep apnea when I was 15 and over weight, can I still Join the Army?

When I was 15 I was quite overweight and my doctor told me that I had sleep apnea after doing a sleep lab study. He recommended me to get surgery which I never got, because I figured it was because of my weight and didn't want them to carve me up unnecessarily, which, they like to do to get money ha ha. I am now 25 and am in very good shape, work out every day, run and eat reasonably healthy and I don't think that I have sleep apnea any more. I feel just fine during the day and I truly don't feel tired all the time like I used to. I have gone and talked to the recruiter a couple of times, but need to get my GED and 15 semester hours of college courses to enlist which I am working on constantly. I should note that I haven't told him about my former history of sleep apnea yet, I know that sleep apnea is a DQ from the Army. I am very dedicated to joining and it would kill me to be told I can't join because of something some doctor told me 10 years ago that doesn't affect me any more. Would I just be better off not telling him, because I have read that they can't get your medical records unless you give them permission. Please, only people that know what they are talking about answer this question (Army Recruiters, people currently or formerly serving).
