How could anybody have hated John Lennon and what he stood for?

I saw a doentery last night called The U.S. vs. Jon Lennon. His message was peace, and guess what had a problem with his message and freedom of speech? You guessed it the Republicans! Sound familliar? The Republican media did the same thing to the Dixie Chicks and tried to make villans of them for protesting against the war. Do Republicans love war and hate peace? .....and if this is true than why in the world do people vote for them?
