I need help laying sod in New Mexico!!?

I live in Albuquerque. The terrain in my yard is pretty sandy but the dirt looks moist. There are some rocks inbedded in the soil because there was rock xeriscape there. I removed the plastic and discovered that the soil had a good amount of rocks that are about an inch in diameter. I already tilled the land, but there are still little rocks that are surfacing.....are these going to hurt the sod? Do I need to pick out each one of these little rocks by hand?
