Will we ever see a return to the days when pictures like these ones ...?

Why would you think a protest in France would be of sufficient interest to anyone outside of France that it would make the front page of a newspaper? The protests were covered here in Australia in the foreign sections of the newspapers, but it was not a big story. We've got our own government's response to the GFC to consider.
