Are the shots newborns receive these days linked to the epidemic of asthma, peanut allergies etc?

I (my iance actually) are due in July. I have heard conflicting stories about the shots newborns receive. Would he be better off not receiving some of them? What are the shots that they will want to give him? I know some people who say that they never gave their newborns all the shots, due to the actual negative side effects of the shots. Are they just crazy hippies? Obviously, the vast majority of our society believe the shots are needed, and the reason why we don't get poleo is cause we are vaccinated against it, not because it is not around. I just want to know all the facts based on both ways. In the end i just want to do the best thing and am trying to educate myself so i can make the best decision. Thanks in advance!
